After months of delays in getting the film to Australia, John Wick Chapter 2 is here and it’s mildly impressive.
After returning to the criminal underworld to repay a debt, John Wick discovers that a large bounty has been put on his life.
John Wick Chapter 2 is a heavily stylised, cleverly shot film, with many, unique and clever homages to classic action, kung-fu and western films. However, the paper-thin plot doesn’t do justice to the director, cinematographer, or some of the cast. Keanu Reeves offers a strong performance, but he doesn’t really get a range of emotions to play with - leaving him at one emotional level the entire film. This quickly becomes disinteresting. Ian McShane is clearly the strongest actor and is an interesting character I’d like to see built up further in the third instalment. One of the better action films, but still room for improvement.
