Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again delights and thrills exactly how you want it to.
In this sequel to Mamma Mia!, Sophie learns about her mother's past while pregnant herself.
10 years after the original became one of the highest grossing cinematic musicals ever a sequel has finally presented itself. Somehow this manages to not only re-create the magic of the first film, but actually surpass it. The musical numbers are lavish and extravagant and the film knows exactly what it is, so plays into the required campiness. Lily James as young Donna is a good piece of casting, though her British accent occasionally slips through. Amanda Seyfried, Julie Walters and Christine Baranski have excellent musical moments together. Dominic Cooper and Pierce Brosnan both have small musical parts, probably for the best. Jeremy Irvine, Josh Dylan and Hugh Skinner play the younger versions of the leading men excellently. Also seeing Cher and Meryl Streep singing together in the finale is a cinematic highlight.
Overall a wonderful film that’ll delight musical theatre lovers.
