The Daughter - 4 Stars

A strong script and outstanding performances are the key elements of this Australian film.

First time film director/writer, Simon Stone has assembled a fantastic cast. Simon has evoked emotionally convincing performances from these astonishing actors in a way rarely seen before. This really makes the film an ensemble piece.

Paul Schneider is clearly the stand-out, he is phenomenal. Odessa Young, Ewen Leslie, Geoffrey Rush and Sam Neil are also fantastic in their roles.

The cinematography is another standout in this fantastic film, Andrew Commis has made this picture look beautiful – it really showcases Australia’s natural beauty.

The music and editing are also strong.  However, the film’s inconclusive ending does leave a little to be desired.

Overall a strong Australian film that will hopefully make an impact at the Australian and overseas box offices.

The Daughter is released on March 17, my interview with Simon Stone will be released in early March.
